The crystal-clear, turquoise waters on the beaches in Tropea and in the picturesque surroundings around the town are unique and are among the best in Italy for good reason. For sun worshippers, a dip in the sea here promises an almost Caribbean flair.

The view from the historic town centre above the turquoise bay is unique. Tropea offers a variety of water sports and activities, including excursions to the still active Stromboli volcano, which you can marvel at at night with its glowing eruptions, or a trip to the small, dreamy Aeolian Islands. Excursions to the surrounding area are also worthwhile, so exploring the area with southern Italian flair is particularly fun in your own hire car. A trip to the small town of "Pizzo", where the world-famous tartufo ice cream was invented, is also worthwhile. In culinary terms, dishes with the ubiquitous "cipolla rossa" (red onion) and hot chilli peppers are traditional.
